    A. Those "kidney bean" wheels at your link were never a option. They were seen on a few press cars, as were facing stripes and half painted GT Hawk roofs, but never factory installed.
B Even if the wheels were available from the dealer, that does not explain why they would appear on a build sheet if the dealer was the only choice.

It is quite likely that the mag. writer was told that Halibrands would be available at Dealers at the time it was written, but when they became available, they never used the test car design type wheels, as you may know, they went with the real magnesium spoke type Mags instead. []

          Rich,

You might recognize this car (minus the missing mags).
It's a white prototype Super Hawk (with powershift) sent to LA after engineering.
The article did say the Halibrands would be available, but perhaps they weren't by the time dealers started receiving them in April.

            Rich,

I bought a new 63 GT in Aug of 63 and wanted the mags a few months later. The dealer, Freeman Spicer sent me to Salay's Speed shop in South Bend to order them, even though they had a Avanti on the floor with them by then. I saw them on Egbert's car, and had to have a set. BTW, they started to corrode after one winter.

I agree with JDP about the "kidney bean" wheels.
However, I was parked next to the Roger Ward car at
the AOAI meet in Chicago this year and it does in fact
have "kidney bean" wheels that I understand Mr. Ward specified.
I have the "salt flat special" wheels on mine and was thus able
to compare them to the Halibrands on the Ward car. They are very,
very close except that mine are polished.
See the Ward car (now owned by Bill Silhan) and mine on page 34
of the Fall/Winter Avanti Magazine, Issue 148. Mine is the red '63.
Then on page, 38 Robert Turk's '75 is shown with "SFS" with painted
                            centers.
