I am in need of the headlight bucket for a 1947-49 Champion. The parts book calls it BODY, Headlamp. Part #285183. Also, the BASE, Sealed beam unit mounting. Part #285185. (This is the adjustable part the lamp sits in.) NOW: Before you all chime in and say to just use or you have one from a 2R truck, they're just turned upside down...THEY'RE NOT!! I made the same assumption. Spent serveral hours cleaning, painting, re-wiring, etc. only to find out this is not an interchange. The adjusting screws, the hold down springs, etc. are all oriented to the wrong position when turning the truck parts upside down. Unless I mount the sealed-beam upside down, this aint gonna work! And oncoming motorists wouldn't be too cool with it either. So how to tell the difference if you have a H/L bucket sitting around but can't remember whether it came from a truck or a 47-49 Champion.[?][?]
If you orient the unit so the parking light is at the top, as on a Champion, there should be a drainage hole at the bottom of the unit, not up by the parking light socket. Make sense? If the drainage hole is by the parking light, that means it was originally for a truck with the parking light at the bottom.
Need one with a good flat front mounting lip.
If you need a picture to help you, let me know.
