Other than the dual master cylinder, what differences are there between the '62 and '63 Lark brakes? Most part numbers differ between these two years. Also, will Hawk brakes interchange? I'm looking at drum brake systems here, not the disc brake systems.

Can't remember when they changed over from manual adjusters to self adjusters; prior to 1962 I think.

Regarding use of Hawk brakes, they should work. Just remember that V-8 cars used 11 inch front and 10 inch rears, and the 6 cyl's used smaller (10's and 9's I think). If you change from 8 to 6 or visa versa, you have to swap backing plates and drums as well.

Swapping in V-8 brakes is an easy way to improve the braking power on a 6 cyl. car.

I can't be sure on this, but I think that all Larks have self adjusters. My '62 did. There were very few differences between the '62 and '63 brakes. In fact, my '56 has the same brakes!:D
To quote an ad that Leonard was kind enough to share:

PELHAM

Like all big, new Studebaker Station Wagons, the Pelham features new rotary Safe-lock doors; self-energizing and self-centering brakes; and specially engineered rear springing to make light-load riding soft and relaxing! etc...

Of course Mine's the Parkview. Still, the ad does say, "Like all big, new Studebaker Station Wagons..."

Now all I have to do is find those chrome headlamp rings for this wagon...

AFAIK '62 did not have self adjusters but '63 did. This would have changed the lower spring, star wheel assembly, and added all the self adjuster parts. The shoes, backing plates, hold downs, etc. should have remained the same.

(checks parts interchange)

yup, that looks about right. My '62 did NOT have self adjusters, and I'm fairly certain it was unmolested (it should still have the original shoes on it to this day, with <25K miles)

AFAIK[?] What's that an acronym for?
Your're right as far as the '56 goes. I remember now, the wire attachments on the '62-3s. I don't know if my '62 was modified, but it did have the adjusters. In fact, the brakes were exactly the same (though smaller) as the ones on my '63-4 wagons.

Thanks guys. I'm putting together a little shopping list. It's amazing how much stuff is still available. Is anyone aware of anyone who still sells the finned drums for the V8 set up?
