  • speedometer cable

the speedometer cable on my '55 broke off at the point it enters into the pinion gearing contraption. Does the new cable fit back into the pinion gear? I suspect that has to be the case but I don't see how. How is is secured?

    thanks.

Actually there is nothing at the transmission end that holds it on other than the threaded cap that screws into the pinion gear. The inner cable is held in place by a flange on the speedometer head end of the cable that only lets the cable go into the housing so far. So when you insert the new inner cable into the outer cable from the top and reconnect it to the speedo head it automatically will be properly positioned providing it is the correct length. Hope this helps.
