What heighth should the antenna be at the max and then at the minimum. Is it a tape that coils and goes up and down to drive the antenna and can you uncover it. I have the main housing cover off. Mine will not move in either direction by turning the wheel on the kick panel on a '47 Studebaker and a '52............Brad

It's a cable that winds around a reel with a clutch. The cover unsnaps and you can see the works.

There's a spring steel pressure plate that fits against a fiber disc. If it has lost it's grip and worn a groove in to the disc you may need to secure it in some manner. It's been years since I had one of these apart. I'm not up to removing mine to resurrect memory so open it up and tell us what you find.

I actually got mine working using parts from two different antennae so, if yours is all intact, it should be repairable.

It appears to be rusted in place also. I have lubed it and will let it set for a while..........Brad

One of my "smarter" moves some years ago was to lube the wind-up antenna on my '53 with a graphite liquid. Can you say "zero radio reception"?

Mine retracts to 6 1/2" and extends to 51".
