WANTED: R3 HO alternator pulley. Does anyone have one available?

I don't think there is a HO alternator pulley. There is a HO crank pulley and one for the Supercharger but none specifically for the alternator taht I know of. The HO crank pulley will give you more alternator output at lower RPM's.

The R3 alt pulley is bigger in diameter.

You might need a bigger pulley on the alternator to slow it down at 6000 plus RPM. It would not be hard to find a bigger brand X pulley.

Those can be had from your FLAPS. I have one on the car below and it sure has saved the alternator as much as this thing sees the upper side of 5K RPMs.[}:)] Sure keeps em' from slinging the guts out.[xx(] Bear one thing in mind, the alternator will not charge under 1K RPM like it use to. If you have to use headlights on any other accessories, it will require yet more RPM. Hope this helps.;)

Does any body know the diameter of the R3 Pulley? Nels?

Some more info.... the larger diameter alternator pulley for the R3/R4 engines, carries the part # 1559311, straight from the 1963/64 Avanti parts manual. Too bad it does not give the diameter. I have seen them before on cars and it's definately larger. The stock R1/R2 pulley measures 3". The standard 6cyl and V8 pulleys are 2&3/4 inches. The "after-market" one on the car below is 5". Beware...it won't start charging until the RPM is about 1,000-1200. Not intended to be used in regular street duty.:( Like you said, mabe someone who has an original will chime in. Hope this helps.

The HO R3 alternator pulley measures 4 3/8". If I cannot find one, I have two friends with machine shops that can make them.

just search online; a while back I was having a problem with a 10SI alternator that wouldn't grab the belt, I found a replacement pulley that was machined from solid steel rather than two pieces of stamped steel like stock, no probs since. you can probably find one the diameter you want *and* with a deep belt groove to keep the belt from flipping over at high RPMs... (you wouldn't be one of those guys who builds a hot engine and then never goes over 5000 RPM would you? That's just wrong!)

I'd tell you where I bought it from if I remembered, but I just don't.

go to your local rebuilder (starters and alternators) ask him what will make your alternator do what you want it to do. Bigger smaller deeper what ever most of them are willing to help. At least the ones I've dealt with.
