I am ready to install the rear window in my 51 Champion sedan. After a couple of (unsuccessful) tries from the outside, I read the shop manual and see it is installed from the inside. The reference to using a pry bar and big mallet scared me so I thought it might be a good idea to seek guidance from somebody who has done it before. Any suggestions and helpful hints will be most appreciated.

An experienced glass installer I know was having trouble re-installing the glass in a Starlite coupe. He was putting the same glass back in that came out. It just would not go. It seemed much too big. He found an even older experienced installer. Told him to unbolt the braces behind the rear seat. That allowed some body flex and it slipped right in. Don't know if the sedan is the same, but since it is one piece (right?) it doesn't have a center divider to support the opening while the glass is out. Have you done a rubber-set glass install before? And does the glass seem to be too big? Might be wise to have an older glass installer do this job. The younger ones rarely do gasket-set jobs anymore. Everthing modern is glue-in. HTH

From Chuck Collins site, here's the instructions supplied to Studebaker by PPG. While it's for the windshield, the procedure is the same except you don't have to deal with trying to get that trim back in.
