    Are the Heads interchangeable on the 170 & 185 engines? Let me know

    Well,

    SASCO lists head # 1544289 for $71 and change. That's a good deal by my standards. It's a head listed for a '58 car but SASCO shows it as an applicable cross for all 170s/185s from '46 thru '60.

        Using the '49 head with the 185 engine will raise the compression ratio at least a half-point. So the worst that could happen is ignition ping that you can't get rid of. That's not real likely to happen, but if it does you can easily go back to the 185 head.
