  • CNN article today on Packard plant

See the following link for a rather sad story on the Detroit Packard Plant. Studebaker got honorable mention!
Arson fires. Scrappers. Blackouts. It's all part of business for the last tenant in Detroit's Packard Plant, the decaying industrial complex that the city wants demolished.

Sickening follow-up: 11/6 Wall St Jrnl has front-page article on "urban explorers" pushing a dump truck out through the third-story wall.

Sorry, fourth floor. Dan White has it covered on StoveHuggerz.

I was flipping channels recently and saw that the Packard plant was featured in the latest Eminem video. They apparently used it to show what a wasteland Detroit has become. Ironic, considering the plant has stood empty for over 50 years and closed during Detoit's heyday.

No offense to fans of the plant, but having lived in the Detroit suburb, it's time to tear it down. The city kicked out all the little businesses that were in there about 7-8 years ago and started demolishion on the front of the building (the important part that Albert Kahn did such a beautiful job designing). After the decay and the vandalism it needs to come down. The same is true with the Detroit Train Station. The time has passed to do something with these buildings. Sad, but true.
