It would have been a direct competitor to a Chevy Corvette and later the Thunderbird that came out for 1955. It would look good with a convertible top. Is this a Studebaker prototype?

The outline sure looks familiar. I don't know if it's the new BMW coupe or some other car, but that sure looks like something I've seen lately.

It looks like one of Bob Bourke's 1/4 scale design models from 1950.

A 60s Renault Alpine (IIRC..or was it the Gordini?) had a side "cove" (for want of a better word) like we see on this and the 53-on C-Ks.
And it also looks a bit like a Sunbeam Alpine from the side.
The wrap-around rear window is a bit like a TR-4 with the "Surry" top (what we'd call a Targa today) with the fixed rear window and removable top.

          Great designs inspire others...

Hers's the modern day version of it, a 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

I like the look of this M-B, but I think the 1953 Studebaker prototype looks better.

The side sweep on 1953-1956 Studebakers was patterned/fashioned after the Duesenberg sweep-panel. It was thought to be necessary to strengthen and quiet the flat panel (later removed).

I like the shorter wheelbase, but the roof line seems somehow out of poportion. Maybe it is too "pointy" at the top. I really don't see the relation in the looks of this Stude and the Mercedes or the Alpine. The cove does resemble somewhat the cove on the Renault.

James, how many Studebakers are in that yard? Is the owner of the yard a member of the club?
