I know that '61 was the first year for the 4 speed. I've seen a few Hawks with it, but what about '61 Larks? Were they available with a 4 speed as factory equipment?

A car like this sure would make a cool ride with a 289 a 4 in the floor! [8D]

In the book "Studebaker, The Complete Story" by William Cannon and Fred Fox, they state about the 62s:

Mechanically the most significant change was the addition of the four speed floor shift transmission as an option on Daytona V8 models. It was the same Borg Warner T10 unit that was introduced on the Hawk in 1961.

Of course, there is probably someone who knows of a 61 Lark with one!

No. a four-speed was not available in the '61 Larks. In fact, the only Lark in which you could even get a 289 was the Cruiser (or police version).
1961 was the year I was shopping for my first new car (and first Studebaker). I studied '61 Larks VERY thoroughly.

The only '62s in which I have ever seen four-speeds were bucket seat Daytonas (converts and hardtops). I'm not even sure the four-speeds were offered in bench seat models in '63. The only ones I have ever seen were '64s.

4 speed with bench seats were a option in 63. My friend bought a new, demo, Velvet black R2 2 door sedan with bench seats for $2800 in Oct 63 from Freeman Spicer. Radio, heater, TT, and the R2 4 speed were the only options as I recall. I often wondered if that car survived.
