What is the route these hoses take on a 62 Hawk. My center hose goes down to the block, only about 3" away.

Actually they only go where they need to, no farther.
Oil Pressure should not come from the block, but the left head, and it's the outer one on a STOCK Fram/Studebaker spin-on filter base, not the center one. [:0]
On a aftermarket filter like a Frantz Tissue paper filter probably not.
The return would have to go back into the crankcase, so the nearest unpressurized location is the side of the oil filler pipe.
