    Somewhere I have an article (can't vouch for its accuracy) that Studebaker's plan was to give the Excellence some Packard styling cues and market it as a Packard. I'll try to find the article and post it.

        As I recall, $14k was about the price a Grand Mercedes sold for in the early 60s. No wonder they objected - even at low volume, that was a substantial chunk of change to lose.

            Very cool. What an amazing halo car that would have been...

            The Facel II is very high on my list of esteemed cars, as are most of the 50s-70s Euro- designed cars powered by bulletproof American V8s.

            Bizzarrini, Iso, Monteverdi, Jensen Interceptor, Apollo, Facel-Vega, DeTomaso...[]
