  • Back in the swing of things! (Addtional Pics)

We have been taking it easy for the past few months. John had surgery, and while everything turned out well, recovery was slower than he anticipated. With his activities no longer restricted, we have both been anxious to spend some more time with the Studebakers.

Our timing couldn't be better! The weather is cooling off in Arizona and our "comfortable" car show season is just beginning. We eagerly registered the truck for the Buckets, Blowers, and Bombers Show & Shine car show at the Commemorative Air Force Museum. This show was a benefit car show for the museum and was hosted by Hot Rod Planet Promotions.

The show was a great mixture of all types of vehicles, including a '50 bulletnose and a '63(?) Lark. One of the most awesome opportunities, though, was the chance to have our truck's picture taken with the B25 Maid in the Shade. To learn more about the museum, you can visit www.azcag.org.

You could also have the pin-up girls pose with your vehicle. They were sweet girls and very respectful of the truck. Unfortunately, our cooler weather turned into 100+ degrees. The girls did a good job of not looking like they were melting!

It's not hard to imagine the truck in a different time and place with the switch to black and white (the dates might not be correct, but we can still enjoy the thought!)

We will post more pictures soon, but we were too excited to wait to post them all at the same time. What a fun day!

Glad you guys had a good time.
Other than that I will refrain from comment except to ask what do they mean by the blowers part of the Title ?
Was there a section for blown show cars and trucks?

George thinks the girls in that Transtar shot have great headlights. Especially the one in the middle. Sigh, what would one expect from a Rover guy?

Ooooh, I like that second pic! The black & white effect is very good too. I never knew that 1940's fashion looked so swell.

Another welcome back from me, too. Looks like a fun outing. You should have had the cast from Top Gun pose on your President to even things out, Tracy.

You guys already know how much I love your truck and its distinctive look, but the shots with the B-25 in the background make it look even better. Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words! We're glad to be back. Shane, yes, the show was at Falcon Field. It filled up in pre-registration faster than they thought, so they actually had to turn quite a few people away. This Lark was parked outside the show's gates, so we got a peek at it even though we didn't get to talk to the owners.

The only other Studebaker at the show was this restored '50 bulletnose. It was restored as a 50th wedding anniversary surprise for the driver's parents.

Here is the story behind the car's restoration. They also had a great photo album with pictures of the restoration/modification process. The license plate read "WED50YR." (We're going to tell our kids that they don't have to wait for our 50th anniversary to restore a Studebaker for us! )

Tracy didn't bring George (the '57 President) to the show since we made it a date day in the truck. We did get to talking to the owner of this gorgeous '57 Chevy about how much she loved his car (this was her dream car until she got into Studebakers.) When John went to take her picture by the car, the owner very graciously opened the car door and asked her if she'd like to sit inside. (Good thing the keys weren't in the ignition, or she might have switched loyalties!) The owner has had the car since '62 and was a pleasure to talk to. We met some great people at this show. Even though the cars were somewhat grouped into divisions (there was a section for buckets, some car club sections, an area for blowers, etc.), it was a non-judged show which made for a more relaxed atmosphere. It might have been an eclectic group, but it worked and made for a really fun time. (Tracy thinks you've got a good idea about the Top Gun guys, Dave...she's going to write in a suggestion to the organizer for next year! )
