I may have a source on 15 X 6 wheels that fit Studes. These are trailer wheels and are brand new. They do not have hub cap bumps on them, but that can be handled. Is there any interest out there for them? I know shipping might be a problem(from Dallas, Texas). Let me know.

I will get pics, price is $48.00 each plus any frt. I am not selling these myself, just ran into a tire and wheel guy who has a bunch of these. Thought it might be of interest to the Forum.

I read on the Forum some time ago that trailer wheels on a car are not a good idea. They are heavier for one thing, if I remember correctly, increasing the unsprung weight. Can't get the search feature to come up with anything, but the bottom line was, don't use them on a car.

Glenn, I'd like to see your Hawk with your new wheels. May I see a picture? What part # are these, or what wheel offset did you purchase? Thanks

Glad I said something before I pulled the trigger. I have two that are bent, and one that is intent on cutting the valve stem off. I will keep looking, unless I can get to Michigan soon, and contribute to the local economy.

Glenn will have to answer the offset question, but here are pictures I took of his two Hawks Sunday 10/11.

Thanks Paul, the wheels are 15x6 with 3 5/8 backspacing.Cragar # 3135605P. Tires are 205 75R15. The 60 could probably go w/ a bigger tire but the 58 is pretty close on the back. Both cars are original but the wheels dont fit the same.

Are you using disc brakes with these wheels? Any problems with balancing?

The cars ride really well. A big improvement over the factory wheels and bias. ply tires. The chrome reverse will work with disc brakes. I had ordered 2 set of wire wheels and tires and after two months of waiting and no shipment date, I cancelled the orders and went w/ these. I will later put the speedster caps and poverty caps on these wheels. Saved a bunch of money and can drive the cars now.

Glen, did you have Cragar Star Wire wheels on order? I've found conflicting information on whether they make them anymore or not.

No, I had ordered the chrysler wires from coker. I thought about the star wires but they only come with painted spokes (black and grey I think) and they are 7in wide. Im sure they would hit on the rear of the 58.

'pends how they measure backspace. if that is 3-7/8" from the bead seat it should work darn near perfect, you might even need 1/8" or 1/4" spacers in front to get it dialed in (I think stock offset was something like 3/4" for the 5" wide wheels) if it is from outside edge of wheel probably subtract 1/2" to get to the bead seat, that's about 3/8" offset, will work for reasonable tire sizes but not big fatties.

Here's a source for new K/H #82552 wheels. The fellow who runs Classic Chambered Exhaust has a sideline specializing in plain steel wheels for the hobby, mostly for musclecars when guys want to go back to beanie hubcaps and plain steel wheels, and they are brand new.

These K/H 82552 wheels are the same ones that Bob Helm in Studebaker-land ran out of maybe 8 months ago. They aren't cheap through Classic Chambered Exhaust ($135 each, plus shipping), but they at least are available.

Bob described for me the problems that he began having with the supplier of the wheels he was selling. He checked every wheel that he got from them, and they would credit him back for everyone that was out of round. The last batch that he recieved was .020 out of round and they basically told him that they were his and they weren't gong to make them anymore. A shame.
Thanks for the source, Bob.

Is Studebaker the only manufacturer that had bumps on both sides of the valve stem (bumps being inline with rotation of wheel) to prevent hubcap rotation? How did Ford keep hubcaps from rotating?
