View Full Version : Rat Rod ? Now $1000 !

If you look up rat rod candidate in the dictionary, you might see this M series pictured. If I decide to buy it, is it worth $1500 to anyone ? The engine is free, pretty solid, but some small rust holes here and there, I did not see any more than dime sized except for the rear of the running board and maybe the bed. . No title, but Broadway title can provide one for $150. I'd drag it home and clean out the bed and interior, but that's it for the $1500. OK, I might try and get it running just for grins. Extra front bumper in the bed. Update I can buy it cheaper, anyone want it for $1000.00 ?

I can buy it for $1200, but have to pay to flat bed it to my house near Annapolis, so $1500 would pay cover my butt on the deal, but I don't need it myself.

Hey Biggs and Annie,

There's one in Kingsburg. Maybe a little rougher. O.K. It is rougher. Had a dash clock. Cool.

I have a question. Every time I see a M series, its either chuggin' down the road hauling old tires to the land fill, or a hot rod. Does anybody have a Pure STOCK studebaker of any model or year? And I dont mean with with a few added later options either. I mean, with origional papers that match completely. Color, engine, interior, etc. Down to the nuts and bolts STOCK, even (reproduction) tires! Anybody have one?

Yes, there is several cars like that. In 2012 there will be the Studebaker International meet in your town, you should go, there should be several cars like you are asking about.

Well.....My '48 M-5 was parked in a barn by the original owner way back in 1956, and there it remained for the next 40 years, it is virtually all 'original', I even have the original Stude Dealer's 'Bill of Sale' and the original issued 'Title'.

With fresh gas and a battery, she started right up and ran fine, and still rolls around on the hard-as-a-rock 60 year old tires, even the doors still latch tight with an easy one finger click!.
However, those initial years of farm usage took their toll, the fenders and running boards are totally beat, stress-cracked, and crudely welded up.
I have been gathering parts for the last decade as everything on it is in desperate need of restoration.

Always like to see another M Series. But sorry Chris, I like to drive mine, thus it is not stock. I have put over 50,000 miles on it in the past 6 years(2 Provinces & 6 States) It loves to eat up the open road in comfort and at speed. Best camping vehicle I have ever owned. Drove it accross the salt at Bonneville in 2007.http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae283/woodysrods/SummerVacation2007116.jpghttp://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae283/woodysrods/SummerVacation2007122.jpghttp://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae283/woodysrods/SummerVacation2007118.jpg
P.S. Hope to drive my new Stude Hawk even more than that when it is finished.

It is good of you to save it and offer it for a restorer.
It appears to be a very restorable truck.
I just finished restoring one last year and I am very happy with it.
Mine was about in the same condation when I stated on it.
I hope someone wakes up an gets it.

How bout a 57 C-cab. I traced mine back to the original purchaser. I'm the 4th owner.
Production sheet numbers from the Stude Museum match all the numbers on my truck including the engine serial number.
Nothing has been altered.
I'm driving it and using it as it was, down to the oil bath air cleaner.

I tried like crazy to find somethin like that ol' pickup to trade my '64 Rambler wagon for, but couldn't find anyone interested. By the way, the Li'l red Rambler wagon was stone stock, all original and had never seen rust, only one ding, size of a dime. The overdrive worked perfect, engine ran like new. It was my daily driver, but as I no longer need a daily driver, I wanted a good ol' pickup for a project. Now that I've traded for a '54 Champion coupe that is a rust bucket and will prob take more yrs than I have left, just to get it on the road, trucks like this are popping up for give away prices............ story of my life. By the way, if anyone wants to trade an ol' pickup like that for an old '54 Champion coupe, all original, rusty, complete engine/trans, no overdrive, engine looks like it's new, supposedly rebuilt but never started..........you all know the story........ran when parked blah, blah, blah, just let me know. I'm always in the mood for a good trade.

Jerry
