  • What Cars Used 10-inch Smooth Brake Drums

Good evening, folks. My 51 Champion 4-door has 10-inch smooth drums on the front, the original 9-inch on the rear. What year and vehicle type used these kinds of drums, so I can ask for the right shoes, springs, and wheel cylinders?

Also, they measured an inner diameter of 10.044 and 10.046--- with no spec stamped on them, what is the normal and max range?

    Regards,
    Clarence

If you need brake parts - Here is a great place to start:

My Shop manual states that the max. diameter for 9" drums is 9.060" and for 10" drums 10.060" - so your drums are still okay from that perspective. Most Stude Vendors also carry Shop and Parts Manuals which are essential to maintaining the health of your Studebaker.

Are you a member of the SDC? If not, you can join online ($19.95 for your first year) and you will receive Turning Wheels magazinwe monthly which is by itself well worth the price of membership! [^]

Other will likely chime in with additional info.
