I would like to know where I can find a J-596A wheel hub puller. I'd like to buy one, but renting is also another possibility.

I got one at the York swap meet. There were a couple of others there.

I bought a universal wheel hub puller like the one shown below. Snap-on, KD tools and others make them. To save money I bought mine from Steve's Wholesale Tools (6 locations across Oklahoma) for about 1/2 the price of the more well known brands. I used it to pull the rear drums and axles from my Avanti with no trouble at all. You secure it with the lug nuts and then hammer on the cross piece until the hub pops off the axle. When it comes lose it sounds like a gun going off so be ready for it.

I bought a similar universal one from J C Whitney. Then I made one from another Hub. I like the home made one better. NT
