  • R3 carb size question.

    Hi all,

I am brainstorming about my future R-3, and about the carb for it. Can tell me what the physical size of the AFB used for it? And has anyone fitted a holley carb into the R3 airbox?[?]

    Thanks,

    Dylan Wills

Just use a 600 CFM Edlebrock in the pressure box and you'll be good to go. BTW, expect to spend north of 15K to build a real clone of a R3.

Thanks JDP. BTW, its not a true R3, as I'll start with only 299", and I will be porting a set of heads per Mike Van Veghtins instruction when its time, unless I get a real set of heads, wich I doubt will happen. Its a long term project, so I'm not to worried about the cash going out the door at once, lol. Thanks for the figuers though.

One piece at a time, and it only cost me a dime.........[)]

More than one SDCer has just installed the R3 airbox on a standard engine, run a hose to an R2 air cleaner, called it done, gets lots of looks and only spent a couple of hundred. At one SoCal show, I heard a member say, "I didn't know he had an R3 in that!"

I once built a R3 clone that you could not tell was not real by looking, but had the correct valve covers and 5 chrome oil caps.

Lol, I got to have the supercharger though Packard V8. The minmum HP I'll go for is 300, preferbly more, but I really want a R3. I was tempted to go further, and mount dual quads on a R3 style engine, running dual paxtons, that would be alot of fun, just way too pricey. I can always try that some other time though.

That's why you want to supercharge the truck? [)]

Hmmmm, thanks for the tip, sounds promising. I might be able to dress it up like a R3 one, and it might suite my purposes better, as I will have a add on system that will need to get in there.

Just looked at the boxes, looks like they would work very well. But they are really expensive, one place wants 670-860 bucks!
