  • wagon dealership

I met a guy whos dad was the cousin of the dealership owner where my 63 + 64 studes were purchased. It turns out his granddad started the business selling Studebaker wagons. They worked out of the stables next to the hotel. Later on during the day they worked on the the cars in the old stable building and then parked the hotel patrons cars inside for the night. He fondly remembers owning a 64 daytona with a 289/4 speed that ended up going away in a divorce. Says he really misses that car.

It's always great to talk with people who were actually there at the dealerships when Studebaker was still building cars. Sadly, time is relentless and there are fewer and fewer around as time goes by.

Back in '63 when I was dickering to buy a '64 Wagonaire I talked several times to the Anderson brothers of Anderson Motors in Garnett, KS. Theirs was a family-owned dealership that had started in the wagon days. They were a very successful dealership. They claimed that there were more Studebaker trucks registered in the county than Ford, Chevy and Dodge COMBINED!.
