  • Help on I.D engine ID#

Can anyone give me help. A guy is selling an engine on ebay. He states that it is 1963 STUDEBAKER V8 LARK CRUSER 289 ENG. ID# F97806. Is this a 289 motor. I looked it up on tech tips and it does not show what it is.

If the first letter is a P instead of a F then it is a 289. NT

That is what I thought it was. This guy in advertizing this on ebay. Take a look at this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

        Perhaps the F could be a P
        What say you?

            I'm with barnlark,
Looks like a P to me. At the ends of the F you can see them start to curl around to make the "p". Has the power steering pulley on the crank also.

And, it is set up for an Automatic Transmission, but that is pretty useless without the factory matched Torque Converter Housing.

The ad's engine number i.d. should be P93806 now that I look at it better. Not F97806.

The engine must have been rebuilt at time. It has flat top pistons. Or it may be a 259 motor. ????

Of course it can be dialed-in, but not a standard Valdez bolt-in, if it is going in front of a Standard Trans.

If you read enough of Roy's posts, you already know that he is ALWAYS trying to bolt together different years of non-compatible Stude. parts! [:0]

                            Hey Roy,
It might have been rebuilt with flat tops. That's what I did with mine. If he isn't a Stude guy, he might not know the difference between the two? Flat top, dish piston, as far as the bell housing goes. Its probably bolted to the tranny that is ready for the next auction.[:0]
