  • Search for a float for Carter WE Carb

    Hi Stude-friends!

I'm looking for a new float for the Carter WE carburetor installed in my 1949 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe Starlight Coupe. At the old carb gasoline gets in and after I drove my Stude quite a while and try to restart it, the carb gets flooded.

Studebaker West and Studebaker International weren't able to help me with my search for a new part.

Now maybe some of you guys can help? This would be beautiful.

    All the best,

    Bjoern from Germany

http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/floats/f57.htm You could also try locating the float for an older Willy's Jeep carb, model WO. (WWII MB & early civilian models)

Having not seen the float or the carb, I make the assumption that it is a brass float.

That being the case, also assuming the securing apparatus to be okay and just the floating part to leak, can't it just be soldered to repair it?

And if not, can the brass float from another similar one, be used by soldering it to the old securing apparatus?

I have soldered leaky floats. It's a bit tricky in that you have to immerse part of the float in icewater to keet the air inside from bubbling out and defeating the solder patch job.

I can look and see if I have an old WE lying about.

Do you want a good used one? I just took a carb off
a running engine. You said "new", so I wasn't sure.

Try, Dave Thibeault. See TW's for his telephone number.

A good used one would also be fine as long as it is working fine and the price is fine too. Talked to a guy from my neighbourhood yesterday. He wants to take a quick look at the float, if he can repair it.

Let me know, and I will open this one up (carb) and see if it's what you need.
