View Full Version : hood & trunk lid will not shut and protrude

I bought a '47 today and the hood and trunk lid are up in the air and will not close. The trunk lid is up and extended out and level with the ground. The hood almost goes down but is out quite a ways from the firewall. What is wrong and what is the fix ??. I sprayed lube on all to help. It appears maybe it is weak springs ?.........Brad

Has this car been sitting for a long time with the hood and trunk open? It sounds like the hinges have rusted up and are now bent. Try to push the hood and trunk lid back to full open position, then keep lubing and working a little at a time.

I've found that most hinges are designed that, when thet get rusty, will let the lid open with no trouble but not close; if you force them it'll bend the hinges and/or lid![}:)]

Make sure not to force anything any further; start spraying and praying!:D
