Where does one find a pinion gear for a silver hawk? I think it's # 537566. I've tried several vendors-no luck.

If the pinion gear is broken, chances are you need a ring gear also. Try these guys...

Sorry I was vague. It's the speedo pinion gear.

There's a problem with what you're asking here. That part # (537566) is a pinion gear for a car fitted with the Studebaker (Detriot Gear) Automatic (1955 V8 and earlier car). A Silver Hawk wouldn't have such a tranny unless someone had gone to the trouble to transplant one into it.

I think most of the major vendors have them. You will need to know the rear end ratio as that determines both the pinion and speedometer gear part numbers.

Here's how I arrived at the part #. The car is a '57 Silver Hawk. The parts manual covers '55-'58.In the speedometer gear and pinion chart it lists model 16G8 (that's mine I think) with an axel ratio of3.31 (that's me again) with automatic requires a pinion gear # 537566. If I have calculated this incorectly please advise.

Model 16G8 is for 55 president with V8, hence the wrong year -wrong tranny. Check the model codes at the front of the chassis manual. The listing is kinda hard to follow, took me a while to get it down.

oops, as Mr. Biggs says Commander not President, I knew that.

You need to look at your car's body tag. As the kid's said, 16G8 is a 55 Commander. Your car would be a 57H 57 indicating the year, "H" indicating a President-series car, or more to the point, a car with a 289cu.in. engine.:D
