Well here I go again. My '56 Hawk is just sitting in the garage and not being used on the nice days. The steering wheel is off to check the turn signals. The signals work but will not cancell. Been that way since I got the car. All parts are clean and lubed but cannot figure out how the cancell is supposed to work. I checked the parts book layout but don't see what part does the cancelling. I have a cancell cam on the bottom of the steering wheel. It does not engage anything when the wheel is turned. Car has factory installed signals. Can some one tell me just how the cancell works?[:I]
Since I found the lock plate installed under the wheel rather than under the wheel nut, Don't know what may have been done by who ever was in there. May be parts missing that I don't see in the parts book. [?][?]

the cam engages the "fingers" of the turn signal switch, if you have the wheel off and in your lap when you're looking at it it will make more sense. I had to buy a NOS cam for my '55; it had a groove wore in it deep enough that it would not reliably catch the cancel mechanism, and it was maybe only 1/16" deep or so.

Nate, I have the wheel off. The cam mounted to the wheel has the opening facing down. Also, it sticks down below the bottom of the wheel shaft about 1/4 in. When you say it catches the cancell mechanism, do you meen the pawl?? Thanks a whole bunch. This thing is driving me crazy.:([xx(]
