  • Will there be drag racing?

There are two tracks in Phoenix area, would be great if the informal Studebaker Drags from the previous International meets could be continued. "C'mon Boys, let's race!" Girls too!

Pat,I have been informed by a trusted and inside source from the host Grand Canyon chapter of which I am also a member that, YES,Studebaker drags are planned at Speedworld, a quarter mile track off highway 60 on the northwest side of the valley.I ran my 41 Champion there 2 years ago and it is an ok facility. Not as fancy as Firebird raceway south of Phoenix but good for our needs. No further details at the moment. From the host hotel in non rush hour traffic it should take about 40 minutes or so to get there.

We are still working on it. There needs to be a tye in with another group or the cost to rent the track would be more than we could afford. Stay tuned.

I was looking at the Speedworld web page and it looks like they have Wednesday night events some times,(Beat the Heat). Maybe they will have those going while we are there and we could join in on that? If we bring a Studebaker police car?

It looks like we can have drags for the Glendale meet. This would be at Speedworld that is about 25 miles Northwest of meet headquarters. Wednesday night June 2, 2010. 6 to 10 pm. $10 per person to race or watch. How does this sound to everyone?

                    Hey Steve
I am currently wintering in Arizona and have our 41 with us but we have no plans to participate in the drags at this time. Around the first of April we will head back to Nebraska with the 41 and come back down here towing our swap meet trailer in May instead of hauling the 41 back down. At least that is the current plan,I never say never however. I"d love to race you though as I am now a little more competitive with the car running 13.80's. Maybe in Springfield,Missouri next year if they have drags.[]

That will be great if you can get away and compete in the PSMCD in September,I'm sure the Studebaker crowd competing there will be glad to see you. More participants join in each year. I sometimes wish I would have built an R-2 Lark instead of what I have. But we have fun with the 41 at other tracks from time to time. I'll see you here in Arizona in June.

That is very gracious of you Steve, maybe if my bride would agree to let me sell her 63 Daytona convert that would be an option.[]
SSSHHH..... don't tell her that I even brought it up. To get back on topic,I will be attending the Glendale drags to cheer everybody on that Wednesday and have been approached to possibly lead a caravan out to the strip since I am familiar with the area.

                              Frank,

Sorry to hear you won't have the 41 there, we would have been a fun match, R2 vs X. Your 13.80s are impressive. In two times to the track my best is a 13.68, but I am not very consistent due to traction challenges. Glad you will be there cheering and leading (cheerleading?) at least.
