In the Sept issue, [u]Motor Trend</u> lists the

Nary a Studebaker in the bunch.

Oh, there is the Checker cab and the Volkswagen GTI and a Land Rover and 3 Corvettes and a myriad of Ferraris but NO Studebakers.

Somebody needs to straighten those guys out!

Yeah, a Checker cab is notable IMO - but never could be called cool.

I disagree, John. Why? These lists come out all the time. They're usually a mostly random guess by a non-car guy with only a passing interest in the subject. If the same author put out the same list with only Studebakers in it, it wouldn't mean anything either. Purely an opinion piece, if that.

When I see one of these lists, I barely give them a cursory glance. Never found one I completely agreed with, and I doubt anyone else has.

I do wonder, though- did any Corvairs make the list? I'm not interested enough to look up the article[|)]

        No bullet nose?
        No Hawk?
        No Avanti?

Must have been a kid who wrote it.
Can't see beyond the "usual suspects"...Ferraris, muscle cars, and a few freaks thrown in for fun.

What happened to MT? Several years ago the had a '53 Stude as a center fold. Too hot in the attic, to dig it out now. Anyone recall this issue? Huck, in Detroit

Nope but a Jeep and a '49 Cadillac did. This list was done by Arthur St. Antoine, usually a REAL car guy. Musta been one of his off-days.

Have you not seen the 'trend' in Motor Trend over the last 40 years?

I suscribe to MT because they had a deal of 3 years for $20. I like it mostly for the ads and spec sheets on the new cars. As far as their editorials - I don't even think they are fit to line the bottom of our bird cage.

I gave up on MT in 1975, when they gave the Cosworth Vega a glowing review.

Whenever I would pick a MT and glance thru it, I could never get what it was they were trying to convey. And moreso, I couldn't understand why anybody would be interested in most of the articles. It seemed to me that they were more interested in just talking about cars than actually driving one. Or should I say talking about thinking about driving one.

I only read Motor Trend when getting my tires rotated and balanced, etc. when I'm at my local Firestone store.
