    What does this pin mean?

My SWAG is it is an all access pass someone such as a plant safety engineer would wear. Steve

Maybe Richard Quinn will comment. I am curious to know how rare it is.

I don't know, but I think that the "ALL" may not refer to everything, but rather is the initials of a club or organization, such as an Athletic League.

This does not really look "Corporate" at all, if you knew what organization used that Symbol, I think you would have it figured out.

It must be some League or Group having a Chapter in South Bend, named "Studebaker", is that a Girl Scouts Symbol? [:0]

It almost looks like a 4 H symbol.

Sadly, Studebaker Wheel's "Studebaker trinkets you may like" posting from December 7th, 2008 has had its photobucket images deleted. I was hoping there may have been a clue there. It could just be as simple as someone's initials on a specific club pin. At $56 it must be rare and of interest to more than just the curious collector. Our discussion isn't hurting its auction price.

I sent a pic of the pin into the historical society asking them to help identify it.

                      125.00 + as of today.

My guess is Mr. Quinn is a bidder and knows its mysterious meaning.

                      Just one man's guess.

What did some of the Union pins look like?

As of this time, Mr Quinn is NOT the high bidder.

You guys should really read your TW Almanac (esp. October 2001 pages 26-27), I understand that it can be quite informative! Below badge for Plant 1, badge number 210.

Ok, being a curious student and amid spider webs deep in a box, I still didn't find a solid answer. Descriptions such as "...are likewise somewhat mysterious" and "presumably they permitted the wearer..." leads me to believe we will still be guessing if you are! Sounds very plausible and I'm sure you're right. Cool pins and they must be extremely rare to pull that price. We should make those up for the lifer SDC Forum members who can morph into every forum and actually make a contribution on any subject. You guys deserve them. [8D]

Just as I suspected. The pin gave the person wearing it access to ALL Studebaker buildings. The person in possession was most likely in senior management. Rare indeed!
