A few people inquired about the rear A/C unit in the Cruiser parts car I have (see previous threads).

We pulled it out and put it aside. I looked at it tonight. Turns out it's not a NOVI unit. There was a tag on the front that was surface-rusted. I took a piece of 400 sandpaper and sanded off the rust to reveal A.R.A. President by A.R.A. Manufacturing, Grand Prairie. Anyone know anything about it? I assume it's some aftermarket company?

Both fans work, and other than the finish it looks pretty decent. I will sell it and have promised first dibs to somebody. If he decides he doesn't want it, it will be available. Kind of an interesting item![8D]

Well I'll say this: it's design and style (dual fans, and outputs), is almost a direct copy of the Novi that Studebaker [u]and Packard</u> used! [:0]

Bams, what ID/OD size is that hose? That sure looks like it is the stock stude hose I have a few feet of stashed away. Kind of a canvas rubber mixed hose. Wonder if it's a Novi clone, or if it was just made to Stude specs by another vendor.

ARA was an aftermarket air conditioning company that even had an installation garage in Carson California in the early 90's. I dont think the company is in business any more, the garage in Carson has been gone for a few years now (at least 10) but that unit is a great find. Weird is the temp switch mounted on the trunk unit.....not too convenient to use if its blowing too cold running down the freeway!

The first new car I ever bought was a 1971 Datsun 510. I was a green Second Lieutenant at Ft. Campbell, KY, with that $600/month burning a hole in my pocket ;). Bought it at the Datsun dealer in Hopkinsville, KY and had them add an AM/FM and ARA under dash air. The in car unit was custom for the 510 and looked pretty spiffy. It also worked well.

Am thinking those water drains would not be beneficial to the trunk floor...or the sloshing water when one or both rubber hoses get stopped up.
