If you drain and refill the entire transmission, use Dexron III _ Mercon

The above is assuming an automatic transmission (DG 250). I guess the clue is "fluid" as opposed to oil or grease, but I don't like to make those assumptions.

When I first had my DG200 serviced in 1978, I doubt the mechanic knew you could drain the TC. I didn't know. I've used Dexron/Mercon exclusively and it still works great.Brad Johnson,

Should be an access hole in the bottom of the bell housing. Rotate the converter until you see the drain plug in the converter.
Get a gasket for the transmission pan. The filter/screen is brass and can be cleaned and re-used.
By "modern day tranny flush" do you mean siphoning the old fluid through the filler tube and putting in new fluid? Don't go there.
If you mean hooking a machine to the trans cooler lines and running until new fluid completes circulating? My trans is air-cooled. What's yours?Brad Johnson,

If you are referring to an automatic transmission in a 1955 President, it should be a DG 250. It is air cooled so there are no fluid lines going to the radiator to use for a flush. Drain the pan and the torque converter. Use the "search" function on the Forum to find proper refill instructions.
