need help to start changing clutch 59v

Do I need to remove the trans-hump cover to access the bel-housing bolts?
Do I need to remove the frame cross over piece?
The manual dosen't suggest to remove the interrior hump cover ,But suggest taking the crossmember out,
What is the easiest way.

I have pulled the bellhousing on several different Larks and Hawks, and always used long extensions/swivel joints to get the top bellhousing bolts instead of removing the trans hump cover. Lately have been using my new 'wobble' extension for this job.

Not sure about other folks, but I normally pull the crossmember.....just seems easier to me, especially if you have to dial indicate the bellhousing. However, the rustier the crossmember bolts (especially the body bolts on the extreme ends of the crossmember) the harder this part of the job will be. You will have to support the engine in some way if you pull the crossmember; the Shop Manual has a sketch of a support that can be made to go under the pan rail and support the back of the engine. Mine was built out of 2X4s and plywood.

There are different ways to do this job, and I'm sure others will chime in with their favorite way.
