So most studebaker engines have camshaft and crankshaft are gear driven, is that correct? So they don't need maintence. Your articles say most of the engines have a thin washer , is that right?

Yes, Studebaker cams are gear driven by the crankshaft. Only the 65-66 engines had chains, but they were built by GM. Not sure what you mean by "a thin washer". You really need a shop manual to answer your questions easily.

The [u]Crankshaft</u> has shims for end play adjustment, the [u]Camshaft</u> however has a retaining PLATE and a Spacer Ring thicker than the plate to hold .003 to .006 max. automatically, if neither are worn beyond tolerance.
All of this is SHOWN and EXPLAINED clearly in the Studebaker Shop Manual however.
