  • Rear Spring Interchange question

Little problem with rear springs I ordered from SASCO.

I bought a set of 1559760, spec'd in the parts book as HD springs for 63V & S. What I [u]received</u> are clearly stamped 1554563, which the book says are standard-duty springs for 62V & S, and 63S.

I'm trying to decide whether to try and return them for the parts I ordered, or to just lump it and put 'em on (due to the weight and expense of shipping them back). My car has a 259 with a WCFB mounted.

So the question is: was there any significant change to the rear spring geometry or spring rates between '62 and '63 that would prevent me from using these? I know they're not HD, but if they fit and work right, maybe I can live with that. They're certain to be a ton better than the flattened, worn out spring packs that are in the car now.

    Advice and suggestions welcome!

If you ordered the HD and he sent the wrong ones, then the return should be on his nickel...
or you can take apart your old ones and insert the 36" leaf in the new pack...

Well yeah, I'll deal with the difference in cost if I decide to keep them anyway. I'm just wondering if it's worth the hassle, or if these will be perfectly serviceable as is.

I have a thing about getting what I ordered. I assume that you came
to the decision as to what spring to order through research. Dont let
a mix up steer your course. Send them back and get the right ones.

Update: Turns out they shipped the SD springs because they are out of the HD units. All things being equal, this is OK since this car is not being built as an all-out performer. Denise is going to credit me for the difference.

Well yes and no. Normally I would have to agree with Tom, I like CORRECT parts! [^] However in SASCO's current situation, it is unlikely that many needed parts are actually in stock or that you could get a replacement in time before someone takes it over, so returning them now is not a great idea. You may be able to add another second leaf later if these 62S&V and 63S units are too soft.

Actually you should have ordered the 1559758 Std. duty spring for a '63V-F2 '63 Lark 8 Standard, or 1559759 HD for an F2.

The 1559760 you ordered is the H.D. Option for the already H.D. Standard Spring in the Y3,F3 Police car, and used in the P4, P6 & P8 Wagonaires as H.D. Option, and STD. in the Police Wagonaire P3!

BUT...the bottom line is, they have superseded all of these to the 1554563 '62S,V and '63S STD. Duty springs that you got, so you would not get them anyway!

Exactly right, Rich. Denise went down the line with me... ordered this, superceded by this, out of that, equivalent to this... it'll work
