Will the driveshaft from a 53 commander K match up to my 53 champion C? I am putting an overdrive back into mine and dont have the correct driveshaft anymore. Mine was originally O/D but was converted to 3 speed many years ago. Thanks,Steve

Assuming you are just talking about the front driveshaft section, right? These had 2-piece driveshafts originally. And assuming you took out a straight 3-speed [u]short tailshaft</u> transmission (ie, '57 or earlier) and are installing an OD with a [u]short tailshaft</u>. If all this is correct.......no, don't think it will work due to the length difference between the non-OD and OD tranmissions.
However, since you should have a "too long" front driveshaft once the OD is installed, you could take it to a driveshaft shop and have it shortened.

Coincidentally, I was looking at the parts book at this yesterday. There are numerous shafts depending on body style, engine, and trans options. I suspect the answer is no. Helpfully, the book does give the lengths of the different shafts. I bet the diameters may be different from 6 to V8 too but it does not say.

Looking in one of my chassis manuals, the part number for a "C" body 14G (Champion) propeller shaft with over drive is 532217 and is 17-9/33" long. That is a very short drive shaft. The ones I have are too long.
But, there are automotive machine shops that should be able to shorten one up for you.

Thanks guys, The eng/trans I am putting back in is a correct 53 6cyl OD. The one I pulled was a 51 model 6 with a straight 3 speed (I assume it was also a 51). I have the driveshaft section I removed and can have it cut since it is longer but had located 2 from v-8 OD cars I could pick up on the way home from getting the champ if they were bolt ins. Both are from K bodies. thanks,Stevesigpic
