I just bought 1956 Hawk, how can I find out the history of the car?
It is a Flight or Power Hawk, I think.

Thanks for your info

Welcome to the Forum!

The body plate on the firewall (under hood passenger side) will identify your precise model and trim level. Post it here and you'll find out quick.

With the Serial Number you can obtain a copy of the original Production Order from the Studebaker National Museum.

As to the history?

Personal research.

I do hope you have, or will be joining the SDC.

The 56B identifies the car as a 1956 Commander series. The C makes it a Hawk coupe. Therefore, the car is a 1956 Power Hawk coupe. The 3 is the trim level.
There were 7095 of these built.

It is a 1956 Power Hawk, it should have a Commander 259 V-8 Engine, a Flight Hawk would be a 6 Cyl. a 56G-C3

You have the 1297th Power Hawk BODY, [u]not car</u>, built in '56 at the South Bend, IN Plant.

If it has survived the years well, this is a GREAT model! Congrats! [^]

56B according to the parts book I have is a Commander series car, V8 powered 259 cubic inch coupe which should make it a Power Hawk. The C3 indicates a deluxe interior verses the fancier regal interior which would be a C5. I found this site also that should give you more information http://www.1956goldenhawk.com/diffhawk.htm

Thanks to all of you for the info. It had a 350 chevy engine and a 9" rear end, I'm trying to track the history of the car. It was registered in NC in 2001. I will also try to put pictue on here. My Uncle had a Studebaker Dealership in Burkesville, Ky back in the 50's and i always liked this cars.

Tell us more about your uncle too. We love to hear how long he sold Studes, his dealership name, ect.. & any stories you can relate. Is he still around? You can put his dealership name and search for any mention of his place with the search function at the top of the heading here.

Warren buddy, you might want to make a mental note that there were NO '56, 57 or '58 Flight/Power or Silver Hawk "C" Coupes built in C5 Regal trim! [:0]

Only '53 to '55 Coupes (C5) and '59-'61 Hawks (C6) came in the Regal, upper level of trim, and the latter had no choice like the early "C" coupes did.
