Can anyone decode engine serial number: PL4750 for me?
I can't find a reference in my manuals. tks,

If it's a partial flow 289 V8, it looks like a '58 LA President...

Looks like Dick missed it by a line or two in the Chassis Parts Catalog...make that: a Los Angeles assembled 1956 President 289, 1956 was the last year that cars were assembled in L.A.

That should be a good thick casting, as it is only the second year for the 259/289 casting and the tooling was pretty fresh. It appears that in later years the cylinder walls on some blocks are not as uniform as they could be becauase "core shift" made some (usually rear) cyl's. a bit thinner so that when bored out usually over +.060 you COULD run into the water jacket or get thin areas causing "hot spots". So being a non-full flow engine is not all bad![^]

That's a typo in the list. It would have to be a '56 engine.
