Air Filter Question...

The nuts that hold the Carb. to the intake manifold could be loose and missing lock washers so the Carb. base gasket is likely damaged. [:0]
Is it possible that your Canadian air cleaner has a recessed area at 12:00 (toward the firewall) on the air cleaner to clear the hood torsion bars when you put the air inlet snorkel at 9:00 toward the right fender where it belongs?
I have never had a U.S. '64 Daytona V-8 air cleaner hit the hood with the correct engine mounts, but it is a smaller O.D. diameter cleaner.[^]
Your new air cleaner will be one of those inferior open element type that suck up all the oil, water, dirt and whatever else hits it! [xx(]

As Rich said, check that your carb is fastened down firmly with a good gasket and intall the original air cleaner correctly.
