  • Pic of happy man at CeRap: A ride in an Indy car!!

Mike and Laura Cleary arrived in Cedar Rapids with their #18 Indy car from 1932. Mike has been kind and patient in answering my torrent of questions about how to make a replica of one of these cars. Today, he gave me a ride down the highway in his car. It was a real "Wow!" to be in a small, open cockpit racer with open exhaust moving down the road - four carbs, 336 cubic inches of straight 8 Studebaker power. Jim Turner spotted us as he was driving in and remarked later that I had a grin from ear to ear. I sure did!

    Thanks a million, Mike!

I walked around this beauty time after time with dreams running through me head of driving this racer to the finish line as crowds cheered and maidens swooned.

And then all i get is a picture of you riding in it. Guess i'll have to keep dreaming and you get to keep grinning.
