  • Bell housing for a 6 or 8 cylinder?

    Hello All-
I purchased this for a 289 manual transmission swap. The pattern of the transmission bolt holes match my T-5 adapter.

I was reviewing the picture and noticed a eBay user question at the bottom; guess I did not scroll down far enough before hitting "buy now".

"Q: I don't know for sure, but this is definitely a manual trans. bellhousing and based on the starter position and mounts I would guess that it is for a six-cylinder truck. If you want to positively identify it I'd suggest posting an inquiry to the SDC forums (studebakerdriversclub.com)"

Does anyone recognize this Bell Housing?

    Thanks

    Tony in Austin

Look at the tranny mounts. Those are definitely car mounts. Trucks use two cast"ears" that the bellhousing to engine bolts go through.
Can't find any of my car V8 bell housings right now but on all the truck V8 housings the starter pocket is more or less in inline with the clutch operating shaft, not high up like the bell housing on ebay.
