Of course, back to 1956 on Cars.

What year did they change to the "push in with clip handles" vs the handles that go on with a screw?

The Champ's debut in 1960 was when the car type handles with the spring clip started for the trucks. The screw-fastened handles stayed right thru 64 on C-cabs.

On cars, the 1956 would of course be the first to use the round "splined" regulator shaft with "C" Clip lock and matching chrome handle when the new design handle was begun.

However, as has been discussed here before; the low trim level '56-'57 "Customs" still continued to use up the probably overstocked supply of late '55 square shaft regulators and handles. The regulators had just been re-designed for the New 19551/2 Alta-Vista Sedans and wagons that sold poorly because of late introduction and a bad UAW strike shutting the Plant down.
