I keep seeing plenty of them for 170ci champions, but only ever seen 1 for a Commander, and it was not for sale but on somebody's truck. I don't need one, but have a good 245 that I may want to build up with a a dual carb setup someday. Better keep looking I guess.

I've seen one or two at the Swap meet In Turlock thru the years. Last one I saw, the guy had a finned aluminum head to go with it. If I'd HAD a big six, I'da found a way to own it. But $800 for speculation was too much.

one just sold on e-bay for way too much money, over 500.00. I have one for the small 6 , but am in need of a exhaust manifold for it, if anyone has one I am looking. Allen

Yes there are a few out there, but why so few? does anybody know why the 245 has so few performance upgrade parts? Concidering there were so many of those engines made, you would think that out of the 2 engines that the bigger one would have all the good parts.

John, They're not difficult to make yourself. You could even have it powder coated with an aluminum color to look authentic. Here's one I made for a small 4 bbl carb on my Champ 6 turbo project. This one is a little crude, but it would not be too tough to doll it up.

Yes, an aluminum intake and two carbs look good under the hood.

No, the Commander six has such small valves, short cam timing, low compression; thus, horsepower didn't increase much with a second carburetor.

Maybe, that's why they are so rare.

I'm guessing that since those engines were in the heavier Commander and Land Cruisers, maybe the folks that owned them were less inclined to "soup up" their cars. The Champs were a little lighter, and they were more of an everyman's car, probably more of them out there, and thus more hot rod types had access to them....?
