Windshield Wiper Vacuum Motor Inquiry

I have a 1950 Champion Starlight Coupe with a weak (almost dead) windshield wiper vacuum motor. Unfortunately I am traveling to the International Meet in a week and beed a quick solution - that is if it rains.

I have had the unit apart a few times and determined the leak is either in the "flapper" seal or the gasket around the cover lid.

In any case, I need a new/rebuilt unit or replacement parts relatively soon.

What is the best source for obtaining this unit and/or parts? Thank you in advance for your advice.

I bought what remained of the inventory of the local Studebaker dealer from his estate several years ago and there were a handfull of unmarked (no boxes or part number) NOS vacuum wiper motors. If you could post (or email) a couple photos of your motor I could see if any match up.

I agree with wiper man post. He is great - reasonable and quick turnaround.

Not sure you can "fix this quick".

I found a very similar wiper as in your photos. Here are some photos:




It measures about 6-3/8" outside ear-to-ear. It is marked on the cover CHM 10-39. I have a Trico book around here somewhere to check the numbers, but can't put my hands on it right now. The one difference that I can see is the activator slide looks a little different, it appears to be made out of some type of plasitc. There is no wear on the slide so I believe this is an NOS unit.

I have another one that is a mirror image (the hose and slide mechanism are on the opposite side), however it has a smaller housing that measures 5-1/2" outside ear-to-ear. This one is marked CSM 101-2.

Dan, I agree with your assessment, the part looks identical with the exception of the slide. I can change it out easy enough.
