  • 1951 Commander Convertible & vapor lock

Frank Herold has been a SDC member since 1982 but he just joined the Forum two weeks ago; has not yet submitted a post.

He sent me an email with this photo and text.

"I have been a member of the SDC since 1982 when I bought a 56 Golden Hawk form a guy in Canada. I sold the hawk in 1999. It was like dumping a best friend but two cars were too much to handle. I see you are a multiple car owner, It is a disease that seems to affect all of us at some time. I also love the starlite coupe and have a model on our fireplace."

He's looking to cure a vapor lock issue. He has a rubber fuel line from the pump to the carb. I've never had vapor lock in my '51 and sent him a photo of the line routing in my '51; hope it helps.

I think his car looks yummy![]

I have had vapor lock on my 51 4 door. I cured it with a new fuel pump. The fuel pump being on top of the engine picks up exta heat and when they get weak, vapor lock becomes an issue.
