View Full Version : Drags at South Bend?

JRoberts

I actually reserved a room in South Bend for the International Meet already. I am never, never this early at doing anything. I was looking at the activities/tours/etc. available at the International Meet and was wondering if anybody knows about drag races (I know they are unofficial) at this year's meet. I wouldn't want to schedule something that might interfer with that.

Yes there will be unofficial drags on Friday afternoon at Osceola Dragway I was told by Mr. Ted Harbit.

Hey Bob, how did you find a 3.31 gear set for your truck ? I need gears for the Caddy powered truck I'm doing, and 4:56 with the Caddy would be fun for a few seconds at best.

I'll hep' ya Bob. If I drive the Hawk, it's got a 3:31 open, wide ratio 4 speed and I'm racin' it anyway [}:)]. If I bring the Starliner, it will be on a trailer and I'll have put a 4:55 TT in it by then.

Slightly off topic, but for logistical reasons I plan to bring a horse drawn Studebaker. I see that I can't get on the proving grounds without a Stude (I suspect they mean a powered vehicle). Anyone I can catch a lift with on Saturday?

Joe,
You should plan on leaving a couple days early and head up to Columbus, Ohio to go to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion.
http://museum.nhra.com/nhrr.asp?Year=2007
Ted is an Honoree and will be there.
http://museum.nhra.com/apcm/templates/reunions.asp?articleid=17560&zoneid=48
It is only 200 some odd miles from South Bend, and right on your way. I have a friend that has 20 some acres right close by and he said we could camp out at his place if we wanted to. Might make it a fun caravan to go to South Bend right afterwards.

In a somewhat related item Ted Harbit said that on Saturday he plans on taking the TOMATO to Martin Mi. on Saturday for the PSMD drags as of right now they are scheduled to be held the Friday and Saturday of the meet (could change) and he would attend that on Saturday so myself and hopefully some of you all would follow him up there to be a cheering section. I would like to see him take on those ch..ys and others.
He related thatthe Michigan track is about 90 miles away.

I'll post some information as soon as I get things squared away with the track owners.

Just so I am clear on this, There will be a tour of the Studebaker Proving Grounds but you have to be in a Studebaker to go? [}:)]I just want some pictures for my site. Thats the one place no one has taken photos and put up on the internet and it will cool to see the place but I know Bessie will not be road ready by then.[V]

Yup, you got it! From the Meet website:

"Saturday, June 23--
10:00AM-1:00PM Studebaker Proving Ground Test Track Tour
(Studebakers, Packards, and Avantis only allowed on track)"

You might be able to go on the tour, but any 'brand x' will NOT be allowed onto the track... [?]
