I'm still waiting on my 289 pistons and rods to return from there weekly trip to the machine shop and while I wait I'm getting the rest of the small items together. I started with a 232 engine that has now changed into an actual 289. I'll be converting from the 4-bolt thermostat water pump manifold to the later type water pump manifold with the 2-bolt type thermostat. My question is, is the later type thermostat the same as a V8 Chevrolet? I ask because I wish to use one of the new type Fail-Safe thermostats. Thanks,

yes, it is exactly the same as a Chevy thermostat. The only difference is that you can't use a Chevy water neck as the groove on a Stude is in the neck, not the manifold. The thermostat itself and gasket are the same.

Thank you for answering this question. Since I don't have any Chevy stuff an accurite measurement is hard. I wasn't sure and after investing alot of money and time in building my 289, I sure didn't want to risk overheating it. Thanks again,

Just FYI the earlier 4-bolt thermostat is the same as an early V-8 Chrysler.
