  • Composite gaskets

Many Studebaker owners have used the replacement Intake and exhaust
    gaskets.
There have been several posts on this and some complain about these deteriorating
    and leaking.
Others including myself feel that the exhaust gaskets do not conduct heat and the uneven
temperature between the exhaust manifold and the block can cause the heads to crack.
I personally have seen two heads that cracked mysteriously .
( No snide remarks about my head ,Jeff!!).
Please give me your opinions and/or experiences

I wouldn't do that Bob... My head is too comedic anyways.
    (Folically challenged, you know[:0][])

To be clear about my comments, I was talking about the composite intake manifold gaskets.
I have a whole bunch of Stude's out there running composite intake gaskets right now with no failures.
Now, there were some funky greenish colored composite intake gaskets out in the marketplace 5 or 6 years ago that were not real sturdy.
Maybe these are what you are referring to.
I have not seen them since South Bend 2002.
I have seen numerous sealing problems using the steel gaskets.
Whether that has to do with mixing and matching heads and manifolds, or people trying to re-use them... I don't know.
I have less experience with failed exhaust gaskets, and have mostly run steel ones there...
Who sells a composite exhaust manifold gasket? RPM?
I have not seen any heads cracked like you describe.
    Anybody else?
