I would love to do something like this, I see them on all sorts of
cars these days, and some look close to the contour of the Avanti.

Bob Johstone did this mod on his '70 Avanti. Check http://patriot.net/~jonroq/. Click on one of the phots showing the left side of his car and yuou can see the installation.

Yeah, I did that....... but, (Hmmm) I think the pic of the car you showed, looks a lot cleaner. My filler was a two piece, used on formula race cars. I got it from a place called "Demon Tweaks" in England.

In order to install this, I didn't destroy the area around where the door was, so it could be returned to the original, if necessary.
Looks like that might be the case though, if you wanted that recessed filler.

Yah .. I was looking for the recessed look, flush fitting. I have
seen some really slick looking ones on newer cars, I might have to
make a list, and post up some pictures.

I plan on eventually making headlight rims, and turn signal assemblies
that match the look. My CNC guy is gungho! I might just design up a
new gas door that fills the void, and makes that look. The CNC guy is
a real car nut, and I am lucky to have found him!

Think there would be any market for a clean fitting, flush mounted
door/fill for Avantis? I guess one size fits all huh?
