  • So much for new Avanti's

Mike Kelly of Kelly Avanti fame, just got a little more famous :

    Time-Share Scam

CHICAGO (AP) -- Federal authorities contend a 57-year-old man took in
more than 400 million dollars in a time-share scheme.

F-B-I agents in Florida arrested Michael E-Kelly last week. He's
accused of scamming investors across the country -- including at
least three in the Chicago area -- by getting them to buy into
    properties in Mexico.

The investors were promised an annual return of up to eleven percent,
but authorities allege that Kelly eventually spent the money on a
lavish lifestyle that included a private plane and a large yacht.

Kelly is in custody in Florida, but federal officials say he'll be
brought to Chicago to face federal mail fraud charges.

"Avanti -- A Dying Breed" Has a sad ring to it, but it just might be the end of things. I wondered about this operation when Kelly began to buy up that collections of Studes, then all of a sudden began to dump them on the market. The money had to be coming from somewhere as I don't think that that many Avanti's were produced lately.Too bad.

I wonder what will become of the Lister and other reproduction cars that they had begun to produce.

And yes the whole thing does begin to sound Delorianish, doesn't it?

A bunch of folks got the VIP tour a few months back, but I did not go. For some reason, Mike thinks we've been friends for years, but I'll be damned if I recall where I met him. I helped him with a few car buys, warned him off a couple, bought a few from him, and sold him a few. N8 got to meet him at the Autoshow, in hindsight, we should have taken the tour in Mexico while he was around.

                        Tom

When you pass on I think your headstone should read:
"Never Got Credit for the Mustang Wheels on the Avanti"

LOL, just kidding - although I conisider it almost hillarious your dogged pursuit of posting your wheel *contribution* in even the most oblique topics.

Once again the story of the Avanti takes on new drama - I wonder who will be the next moneyed Avanti lover to take on the continuation of the marque? Or maybe not.
