  • electric question

Hi. New to this list. Just got a 63 Avanti with 82K miles. Started to go over it since it has sat for several years. the motor turns over but I have not started it yet. My question is: when I turn the key on the ammeter shows a negative 20 for about 5 seconds. It then returns to zero. Then the whole thing repeats itself. What would draw like this?TIA

Sounds like you have a short somewhere, that is kicking out a circuit breaker. Once the breaker cools down, it 'resets' and starts the whole circle again.

Look at the wiring diagram to see which circuits have the breakers. I'm not familiar with Avanti's but most likely at least the headlight/tail light circuit has one.

my guess is the wiper circuit. The breakers are in the fuse panel just pull out one at a time and see if it goes away.

On its way to a 15.097 Spring 2006.
