  • Trunk mat example for 1950 sedan

Does someone have a decent NOS trunk mat or pattern that they could take a picture of for me? I have some nice sheet rubber material to make one out of, but no old mat to use for a pattern, and I've never seen an original one. I would just like to see the general shape of an original one. Probably all 1947-52 trunk mats are very similar? Thanks in advance.

        Just to be more specific...

Were the original trunk mats in these cars rectangular, or did they follow the shape of this fiber underpad? Was there a "bump out" or tab that extended to the left into that flat area in the fender (to the left of the fire extinguisher)? Did they extend over the hump toward the back seat? Were they rubber or carpet?
I know I'm being sort of anal about this, its just a 1950 Champion sedan, the most dirt common Stude, but I'm interested to know what the original looked like, even if I don't decide to precisely replicate it.
I got some really nice rubber 1/8" thick, 36" wide mat, but I can only cut it once, so I want to make a well informed cut.
Oh, one more thing. My trunk has this thick textured, kind of tarry rustproofing painted in it. was that a factory thing, a dealer job, or just some farmer's bright idea? Its much too old to be POR 15.

        Thanks.

Here's a view of most of the mat in my trunk. I believe it to be original. I can take a full picture of it this weekend. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the compliment. Hopefully I'll remember to take a photo Friday night after work. Mine also has that undercoating sprayed in part of the trunk, mostly between the wheels and over the wheels. Hope I never need that spare!

My 50 Commander also has the rubbery stuff on it.

I would show you my trunk but that would mean taking my parts storage unit and cleaning it out.[:I]

I haven't checked to see whether one of our fine vendors sells trunk mats, someone probably does. As I mentioned earlier, however, I have some really nice mat material that I can cut to make a mat, and no self-respecting CASO would buy an off-the-shelf part when he has the raw materials at hand

Mine looks about the same as Terry's. It's also completely original including the spare tire. Good luck with yours.............Dave

Thanks, 50 Champ. No doubt that your car is very original. Is your mat made out of rubber? Its hard to tell for sure.

If you send me your mailing address, I can trace out the mat on a big piece of paper and send it to you.
